Interview with the Photographer
Expresses, rather than explains, the dark realities of depression through distorted interviews of rising photographer Laura Turner as she navigates the word of freelance photography. The piece combines hand-drawn animation, and live action imagery to explore the complicated and at times terrifying world of depression. The echoes of Laura’s voice fill the void of time and space within this film. Her words attempt to encapsulate depression and her experiences with the human language, but fail to depict the overwhelming, confusion nature of the illness. This film attempts to highlight the chaos within Laura’s mind and the difficulties of facing reality. Her attempt to escape, only leads to her further realizing the importance of dealing with reality.
